Saving money on your interior design doesn't mean compromising on style or quality. There are many creative ways that can help you to achieve a beautiful space while also saving money. Careful planning and devising practical strategies for yourself will help you to create a stunning home without you having to overspend.
Today I'm going to highlight some of the core things to do, to ensure that you are able to stay within budget, and if you can implement them all you may even be able to spend between 10-35% under your budget.
Determine a realistic budget before starting your project, also, it's a good idea for you to add extra to ensure you're covered for unexpected costs. I encourage you to categorise and have a breakdown for each area of your design.
Before you begin your project, identify your design style. This will help you to make confident choices that align with your personal tastes.
Create a "visual guide". A mood board is the place where you can gather images, fabrics, colours, and textures that will inspire you and bring your ideas to life. A mood board is also a good way for you to remain focused during your project.
Identify the areas of your design where you can Do-It-Yourself. This is a great way for you to build your confidence and will help you to develop your desire for design and to progress your creative nature, whether it's painting walls, sewing your own curtains, blinds or cushion covers or painting furniture.
Negotiate on prices where possible. Do some research on the average prices for the items you want to include in your design. Also, check whether you can receive a discount where you require more than one of the same item.
"Shop Smart" and look for second-hand treasures, discounts, and sale items both on and offline. Shopping during an end of season sale can also save you money.
Spend a little more on high-quality, timeless pieces that will last a long time.
If you find an item that's out of your budget, then search for similar items that are more suitable to your budget. A slight variation on the item's aesthetic can still have the same visual effect,
Support local artists and craftsmen to collaborate on items that will be unique and that will reflect your style. These pieces will add character to your design.
Don't feel pressured to complete everything at once. Take your time and enjoy the process of finding all of the things you need to bring your design together; this approach will ensure that you create a space that you're proud.
If you decide to hire a designer, then choose someone whose work reflects your personal style and budget.
