For the first time, a leading London designer is introducing a range of Haute Couture gowns made from fresh flowers. Kew-based Zita Elze is launching her unique range of exquisite bridal gowns named “The Living Embroidery Bridal Collection”.
The technique is called “Living Embroidery” as the gowns are made with fresh flowers, buds, leaves and berries. Literally hundreds of tiny pieces of beautiful fresh plant material are securely glued onto a silk base. This exclusive technique is delicately applied to the bodice, parts of the veil and train and is soft and comfortable to wear. Brides can commission the skirt and train of the dress to be made from thousands of skeletonized leaves, firmly glued onto tiers of silk petticoats and finished with light embroidery. Alternatively, the skirt and train can be made of silk or satin with a touch of living embroidery at the back.
The gowns are designed and made especially for each individual bride a few days before the wedding. The flowers remain fresh for four to five days and then gradually dry, keeping their form and beauty.
To complete the Living Embroidery Bridal Collection, Zita will also be introducing floral accessories such as sashes, veils, bracelets and hair pieces. Brides can commission all or part of a gown and any accessories. Gowns start at £5,000; accessories start at £200. Every design is unique.
