Jessica and Sloane's beach engagement

Jessica and Michael were married at Cedarwood Mansion. Nashville, on 28 August last year. They have such a beautiful proposal story that I'm posting a special sneak peak of their wedding along with their lovely story. For all the details of the wedding, make sure you pop along to the blog again tomorrow.

Thank you to the lovely Meg from Souder Photography for sharing Jessica and Michael's wedding. Meg is a US based photographer, but would love to shoot some wedding here in the UK.

Jessica and Michael met through a mutual friend at a Grey’s Anatomy premiere party, none-the-less. For each of their stories visit www.sloaneandjess.com.

I asked Jessica about the proposal…

"Well let me start by saying, that I have really particular taste when it comes to jewellery. We had discussed what kind of wedding we wanted when we were at the beach last summer and when we got home, Sloane wanted us to look at rings together. We ventured to Walton’s Antique & Estate Jewellery.

I was looking for a gold antique ring, but couldn’t find anything I loved. What I did spot, was a gorgeous gold diamond band that was different than any other band I’d seen. I tried it on and was smitten. Sloane and I decided to go next door to the local pub to discuss our options over a beer. We decided to go ahead and buy the band since it is an estate piece, and therefore one-of-a-kind. So true to form, we bought the wedding band way before the engagement ring was purchased! We just say that we like to do things backwards.

So now we had a wedding ring that we had to find an engagement ring for. Sloane decided to design the engagement ring since I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted (in my head, that is). Turns out, it’s hard to translate what image is in your head when what you’re imagining doesn’t actually exist. So with lots of direction, Sloane drew up designs and submitted them to a jeweller (but without me knowing much about it). Months later, the ring became a beautiful reality!"

"We went to the beach again in November. We were supposed to have another couple go with us, but they were not able to at the last minute. So we packed up, dog in tow, and headed to Gulf Shores. Of course, in the back of my mind I thought the beach would be a great place to get engaged since we love it so much. And in typical Sloane fashion, he waited until SUNDAY, our last day at the beach to pop the question.

Sunday morning Sloane went for a run (not that unusual). On his “run” he was really prepping for the proposal. After his run, we went to a really nice brunch. We drank and ate like kingsand queens and talked about our future… it just happened to come up in conversation. I remember we talked some about having kids and what we wanted that to look like. We went back to the house and got everything packed up to leave. Then we took Elliott, our dog, for his daily walk on the beach. We took a long walk and at one point, Elliott was starting to go to the left and Sloane had to follow him. I followed suit. As I approached, Sloane said “come here". Written in the sand with shells outlining the words was “Will you marry me?” Then Sloane got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his swimsuit! The ring was SO sparkly in the sun and no one was around, but Elliott. It was perfect."

Don't forget to stop by the blog tomorrow for Sloane and Jessica's gorgeous wedding details.
