A Starlight Express couple and the bride wears a stunning Maggie Sottero gown
Katie and Jamie celebrated their wedding on 24th March at Clandon Park, Surrey.
They met 6 years ago when they were both performing in “Starlight Express” in Germany (a musical theatre show on rollerskates!).
"Jamie proposed last year when he took me to our favourite hotel in the New Forest. When we checked in he suggested we opened some champagne to which I replied “ But its the middle of the afternoon, why would we do that? Let’s save it for later” He tried again and I refused again until he eventually got the ring out and we immediately burst into hysterical laughter for about 5 mins and couldn’t stop. After eventually saying yes after the giggling we were officially engaged!"
Katie tells us about their day...
"The most important thing to us was that our wedding day was totally relaxed and full of fun. We did all of the planning ourselves and designed all of the details. We both loved coming up with ideas and the style for the day.
We chose Clandon Park as our venue because of its beauty inside and out. We loved the Marble Hall upstairs where we had our Ceremony and that mixed with the more relaxed Cellar Room downstairs and the stunning Daffodil field made it a perfect venue. The Cellar Room provided us with a completely blank canvas so we could make it our own which was what was really important to us."
"We chose Sean Gannon as our photographer as he captured my sisters big day 3 yrs ago and we loved his quirky contemporary style and the way he beautifully captures weddings from start to finish." Thank you Sean for submitting Katie and Jamie's beautiful wedding. And thank you Katie for your fabulous account of the day and build-up to your wedding. Congratulations!

I knew exactly what I wanted when i started the search for my wedding dress it was just a case of finding it! I adore Maggie Sottero wedding dresses and I fell in love with one on their website and hunted it down. I tried it on at Proposals and knew straight away that “Dawn” was THE ONE. I only tried on one other dress!!! I loved its simplicity and its touch of Hollywood glamour. I asked Proposals to customise a bow for the back of my dress which they did amazingly.

Jamie, his brothers (who were his Best Men) and his Ushers were all kitted out in Grey Tails and Top Hats with purple cravats and looked very dapper!

We loved having all our most favourite people in the world witnessing our marriage and celebrating with us. We both found it very overwhelming. I loved walking down the aisle to Jamie I remembered my cheeks heart from grinning so much!

We wanted seasonal flowers as we love spring as it signifies new beginnings and we chose tulips as they represent true love. I wanted the bouquets to be tied with a ivory bow to match the bow on the back of my dress.

Our ceremony was the best bit of the day. It was the most important part and we both really enjoyed it in between all the laughter and tears..and laughter and tears.... and laughter and tears!!! Seriously emotional, even the registrar got the giggles in between crying too!

We wanted a strong colour for our wedding something to really stand out and be different so we chose Purple. Our bridesmaid dresses were found on Ebay... the biggest bargain of the wedding!! I wanted them to take everyone's breath away when they walked in and these dresses definitely did the job along with the fact the girls are total beauties themselves!! I loved the style of them and that they had trains like my dress. I also found matching purple stoles on Ebay which were gorgeous too. Jamie’s mum made our lovely flower girls dress- a mini version!

The wedding was a family effort. My mum made all the gorgeous purple hearts favours for weeks before the wedding which doubled up as room decorations as we hung them from all the chairs. I made all the silly photo props which we put on the tables. Jamie wrote out the butterfly place names which looked really pretty landing on all the glasses. We hired purple napkins and me and my sister made them into bow ties one evening before the wedding.

We designed the cake ourselves and kept it a surprise from everyone. We wanted to make everyone laugh and reference how we met. The toppers were the characters we played in Starlight Express. When we saw it on the day we were totally gobsmacked they did a truly amazing job and all our guests loved it!

We designed our invites ourselves - we wanted to make them personal and make everyone laugh when they received them. We made the table plan ourselves and put a photo of every single guest behind the names so everyone knew how important they were to us being there.
For our guest book we provided an instant Polaroid camera for everyone to take a photo of themselves to put in alongside their message. We love that it has captured moments in time that we will never forget and was hilarious to look at after the wedding and will be for years to come!

I choreographed a surprise dance routine for Jamie to make him laugh. I sent out videos to lots of our friends to learn but we didn't have a chance to practise before the day which made it even more fun! I had masks made of Jamie’s face (of when he was in Grange Hill) which the boys wore during the dance!
The evening was really fun everyone danced and chatted all night... oh and did the hokey cokey, a limo competition, some kung fu fighting, the splits and many spontaneous dance lifts which left quite a few bruises on people in the days following the wedding!!! A truly unforgettable day.
Our lighting was designed by my clever brother in law. He made the venue look amazing and surprised us with a personalised gobo on the ceiling in the venue."
