A November engagement

I'm so pleased to be able to feature Louise and Jonathan's engagenent shoot, which was submitted by the talented, and lovely Dominic Whiten, one of Ebury's sponsors.

I love the vibrancy of the autumnal colours, the park setting and the shots against the green background are fab.

Oh, and don't miss Louise's boots... amazing!

I'll hand-over to Dominic to tell us more...

Louise contacted me in the autumn and we met for a coffee so she could tell me about her plans. It seemed these had taken a couple of unexpected turns from what she'd originally envisaged and she felt my style of photography would complement her ideas for how the wedding would look. I immediately understood her requirements and she pretty much booked me there and then.

Walking up the path

Couple walking in the park

Louise's fiance, Jonathan is an officer in the Royal Navy and was away on his ship, HMS Albion. Once he'd returned from a six month cruise we arranged to meet up at Brockwell Park in South London. The park is probably best known for its Lido, which on a summers day is packed. We, however, were meeting on a cold and grey November morning so with the Lido shut and hats and scarves being the order of the day we looked elsewhere in the park for suitable locations.

It was obvious the two of them had given the shoot some thought. Their outfits worked well together, with nicely co-ordinated blue and purple. They also brought along a backgammon set as a prop. This was a great idea as it meant they could concentrate on a game whilst I shot, helping them settle into the session and feel less self-concious.

Couple standing against green wall

My favouite photo from the day is of Louise and Jonathan jumping. This was one of those fantastic moments which seems to just happen in a shoot. We'd found this blue-green wall which I knew would photograph really well but the shot looked a bit lifeless with just the two of them standing against it. So, in a sudden flash of inspirartion, I asked them to jump. After a practice run, this was the first proper go and it worked perfectly!
